I seem to get easily overwhelmed with things going on in my life. That (and the social phobia) is what causes a lot of my anxiety. I recently quit my part-time job and am a full-time mom/wife. I've been doing home maintenance that has been put on hold for a while and it seems other things keep piling up. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with it all that I shut down or have melt downs. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I just know that all the NT's I know think I have it very easy.

Just curious if this is a typical Aspie thing? This year I was diagnosed by my doctor after my self diagnosis about 3 or 4 years ago. I'm 48 and have been married for 19 years and we have 2 teenagers.

I wouldn't know if it is typical or not, but I am easily overwhelmed. I recently discovered that what I called the gift of anti-administration is really called a problem with executive function.

I think it is probably pretty common. I have Asperger's and am often defeated by stresses and challenges (especially at work) that other people seem to shrug off. Often I just collapse after work and sleep for a couple of hours.

I am overwealmed almost every day and am still trying to cope with everyday life. I can't wait til I get the hang of things better so life isn't so difficult and stressful; I can't wait till life is enjoyable.

that's how I use to always feel. I'd think, once this and this is over, I'll be ok. Well, then other things take over. I've decided to just try and tone my life down and quit getting down on myself because I can't do what I see every other person being able to handle. That's one of the biggest reason I quit my job. not sure if it's helpful to you or not but i seem to feel teh same way and i am NT, but possibly ADD no dx though. i see everything i have to do and i just get so stressed out that i can't even think of doing any of it.
i know that even if i get to doing it for 15-20 minutes it will be better but then i think what's the point in starting if i can't finish.

One thing I have noticed with me all these years is that it's normal to get overwhelmed when there's a lot to do, but I feel it so much more and, it seems, so much more easily. Other mother's will tell me they get overwhelmed but it seems I get to the point of frustration before anyone else.

Yes I get overwhelmed easily and I think it is an aspie thing, but I am also bipolar and I think that is why as well.

I get extremely overwhelmed, and I have anxiety as well as some phobias on top of the lovely mix I am already made up with already! Thank goodness my mom is very supportive. I would be in a hole without her, that much I can say.

I think I say "I really stressed" about twenty times a day. This past week has been horrible....my dog got attacked by the neighbors dog, my kids are driving me crazy (thankfully school starts next week whoooo hooo), and I had a "spider freak out" in my car (see...my husband wasnt happy thread in general discussion). My nerves are completely shot...I took my Lorazapam three times this week.

I also rely on drugs to get me through my stresses. I take Xanax (alprazalam) when needed. Since it's addictive and I can't take it all the time, I started on Risperidone which is an anti-psychotic but is also used for autism. It helps with my general anxiety. But my xanax is a lifesaver.

I get really overwhelmed, to the point of anger and rage (internal) when people arbitrarily break rules that I follow because they are rules.

I get overwhelmed by certain things. Shopping for clothes, for instance, completely paralyzes me. Decisions on what looks good, goes together and fits is just very confounding. Other things, I'm completely at ease when there are issues. But that in itself is something I dread.

I'll be okay....as long as I can organize myself....plan my day....(so that I can have time-outs)...
I am attending a "career college" right now...
and when the lights and noise combined with multi-issues arise like in classroom presentations....and it's about social evils in the world....

I totally melt-down....

I thought I was the only one.

Everyday life can be a handful. After work I go on the Internet or watch TV to destress...I just can't handle people because dealing with them all day at work is draining.

Things like car maintenance, getting to work ontime, etc. seem to be no-brainers for most people. For me, they're a challenge. Why? What is so HARD about it, I ask myself. Good grief. Sometimes I let things go, like housekeeping, because it's just too much. What is so hard about pushing a broom around, I ask myself. (maybe since I clean up after people all day at work...)

For awhile now I've kept Rescue Remedy in my purse just in case. Sometimes I need it just to help me cope with people and situations at work. It seems to help me mellow out. Thank God for it...otherwise I'd be on Ativan or something.
