I have a friend who actually does have several autistic qualities, but he's probably never the type to get tested.

Well, he has wanted to get several jobs in his lifetime but never passionately exhibited the qualities needed for those jobs. The only thing he does passionately is describe in excrutiating detail the technology of a fictional story he has created.

The plot and the meaning of the story is about as well thought out as any two year olds work, which shows he really doesnt care about that. It seems his story is merely an excuse to write up ten thousand technical designs for engines, aircraft, spacecraft, weapons, defense mechanism, unit formations, tactical dynamics, ect.

And i'm trying to tell him that people wont be interested in reading about that for the most part. They'll be interested in the messages and events in the story. Also i'm wondering if people WILL be interested in such detailed descriptions, especially when the story it is in is so cliche.

So i'm wondering if anyone here would be the type to have obsessive interests in the strategic organization of technological mechanics that his story is really all about.

I know a young man fitting this description, a young factory worker named Jim.

I cannot imagine your friend's obsession could be in any way useful.

If you know Masamune Shirow the dude who creates awesome anime, such as Ghost in the Shell. You know that he has technical diagrams for a lot of the science fictional technology in his work. He also goes into minute detail, which makes his books more interesting for guys like me. He also has books that explain the technology in his worlds. I have heard that he actually has patents on some of his designs. He is also one of the most amazing graphic artists, I really dig his stuff

Sounds like he'd do better as an engineer or product designer or something. Maybe doing concept art/level design for a computer game or science fiction movie?

I doubt there's much point encouraging him to flesh out the plot if that's not where his passion lies. You'd probably be better off to help him find a place where the technical diagrams are appreciated for what they are.
