Okay, I was on my way to art class at the college. We have have designated smoking areas I saw the cop go by I thought he was going to ticket the person next to me for smoking there. Well I went into class someone who went in after me told me the police wanted to talk to me. I then proceeded out the door to talk with them. They started asking me questions and I had no idea what was going on. Then they said why are you so nervous. I told them, "Wouldn't you be nervous if the police start questioning you and you don't know what the f**k is going on?". The female officer agreed with me. She then began telling me that I match the description of a suspect involved in a robbery with a gun. She stated, "The description is a "White, Male, Red Hair, black pants, white shoes, white shirt with stripes." I then said I didn't do anything I swear. She then began calling in a warrant to search me for a gun and money. I told her I would give her and the other officer consent to search my bag without a warrant as long as all they were looking for was a gun and a bag of money. She began looking in my bag and searching my pockets etc. I looked at her and told her that this better not be a joke. After searching she demanded to know what I was doing at what time and if I had proof. I told her I road the bus to the campus arrived at 8:49PM and began walking to the art building and then I waited a few minutes before going in. I didn't think she believed me. Then I finally told her and the other officers to check the campus security cameras to see if I was indeed there. She stated, this campus does not have cameras. The other officer said we can check the cameras on Fulton where the stop was. They then took my name down and put that they questioned me and I am a suspect on a paper. I told them I didn't want my name on that, she then said, "We have to do this it is mandatory."

This totally made me not feel good. It was hard keeping my cool because I was being treated like they didn't believe me even though I had an alibi on film.

See a lawyer as soon as possible. The next time police want to talk with you tell them you have no comment and to talk to your attorney. If they try to get you to sign anything tell them you will not sign anything unless your lawyer is present.

I wouldn't worry about it. They just don't know what they're doing. Maybe you could've said you're Autistic when they asked why you were nervous. They see someone who acts a little different that's all. They just don't understand. They probably lied when they said the robber was wearing what you're wearing.

Well, if that were to be the case, what else might those cops be capable of doing?

oh, hey, I got chased down the street with a butcher with a large dry salami because my husband and I were in a Deli in San Francisco and he thought I was Patty Hearst! (this was in the 1970's) My hubby had to lock me in the car and have the guy call the cops while I was freaking out and trying to find my dern wallet - that I was paying for my meal when he lept over the counter at me, and it was in side the Deli.

That was harsh. ..be cause I wasn't Patty Hearst, but I wasn't believed for quite a while.

why would you do that? i mean, he didn't do anything and he has an alibi, so why to make it more difficult than necessary? i think that he did everything right. i would do exactly the same.

Hey, that's a killer description, of course. Matching only 5% of the whole population or so. I would've started laughing on the spot. And then asked them to arrest me if they have anything else... But then that's Europe where I live, the Netherlands, where cops are not allowed to search you on the street anyway...
But who knows, maybe I would have allowed them to search me, just to finish the ting as fast as possible and help them, concentrate on finding the guy who really did it. It's a hard job to do anyway...
I don't think you need to think too much of it. Even if you would have no proof where you where at the time, they still would need more evidence to start anything serious, and cops are as lazy as anybody else about doing extra work if they can avoid it.

This makes me angry because while they are wasting their time harrassing you, the guy who did it is still roaming around with a gun. I do think though that people with Aspergers have a slightly noticable "gait" and posture which makes us stand out more.

i think im going to rob this comment ^^. and add: you should just try to relax and tell them the truth. however, i understand it can be hard relaxing. but still, dont worry about it too mutch. they dont have anything on you. if you didn't do anything im sure everything will turn out fine :). but yeah. as tomamil said. you did the right thing i think

so what happens when they harras the real robber?

I have been stopped by the police for looking suspicious going on far less that that description, simple for looking down at the ground. If the description is reall then you are a doppelganger.

You're not going to be arrested over extremely vague circumstantial evidence. And if so, you'll have one hell of a potential lawsuit to threaten the police with.

In the cops' eyes, your claim is unverified, so you must be treated like a suspect. That's police procedure.

What really sucks, in case you haven't figured out yet, is that from now on, whenever there is an armed robbery on campus, and even if the description of the perp does not match yours, you will be rounded up and questioned as a 'usual suspect.'

Bummer. :(

If people committed no crimes, then cops would not be necessary.

Hate the disease, not the treatment.
