Nintendo's biggest screwup (sony snes cd)
They produced 200 CD versions of the SNES, but decided to scrap them because of the SNES' aging hardware. The reason why they decided to make the PSX, was that Nintendo stabbed them in the back. Since they used millions on a CD version of the SNES, without getting anything in return, the Playstation was launched.

Ah yes, I've read about that somewhere before.
The PS1 does have some exterior similarities to the SNES...the way it's shaped for one. But the PS1 has much improved graphics compared to the SNES's Super FX games (Star Fox, Stunt Racers, ext).
If you think about it, Nintendo pioneered the idea of 32/64-bit gaming with games like Star Fox, Stunt Racers, Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country 1-3. Star Fox and Stunt Racers came out before Sega Saturn too.
Ultimately, Nintendo 64 had better games later on in 1998-2001 (with games like Banjo Kazooie, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark) compared to the PS1.
Super Nintendo was getting upstaged by the Sega Genesis until Nintendo made a comeback with better games in 1994-1996 (Donkey Kong Country, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Super Mario RPG, Yoshi's Island, ext)
History lesson: The console with the better games are the consoles that win.

The SNES was 16-bit.

The SNES was 16-bit.
There were some 32-bit and improved graphic games.
Donkey Kong Country (1-3)
Kirby Super Star
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the 7 Stars
And Nintendo worked with early 3d graphics with the Super FX chip, which was used to play games like Star Fox and Stunt Racers.

I did a school project on Nintendo once found it quite interesting, the thing is that Nintendo was originaly working for another company before it made its own. And Sony originaly had a deal with Nintendo, with hardware, but they decided to go with the low memory fast cartridge to the more memory slower disk, and Sony took there ideas witht them. Sony usualy goes with quantity and high technology then NIntendo's original and odd games. The one that has changed is that sony is covering themselves my quantity on the PS2 and technology on the PS3. Not sure what happend but I think there was a bit of Sony creating a consoel against the wishes of NIntendo, but hey they have both shaped the gameing world. Could you imagine if there was only Nintendo and maybe Microsoft, maybe they wouldnt have been able to get in as Nintendo would have a big monopoly, or maybe Sega would be going strong.

The SNES had a 16-bit CPU, so the games couldn't have been 32-bit.
Computer games with wireframe 3D existed already in the 70's. A comment on the subject: Nintendo's biggest screw-up was the Virtual Boy (a primitive attempt at a Wii-like console).

they cut out of the deal just before it was released and sony created a souped up snes that took cd's
The Origional Playstation
I disagree Nintendo's worst flop was the Virtual Boy, the thing with Sony was a mere bump in the road.

Going back to cartridges for the N64 hurt Nintendo's development, but I remember the graphics and gameplay being much more satisfying than on the Playstation. Would Mario 64 have been as great if it'd been released on what CD media was available at the time? Or Ocarina of Time? Or Goldeneye? Or Shadows of the Empire?
The PS1 may've been easy to develop for but I think it just encouraged laziness. The graphics have REALLY not aged well (try playing Final Fantasy or Resident Evil on a modern television) and none of the sequels were quantum leaps in gameplay like each of Nintendo's have been. The first six Tomb Raider games (back when they were made by Core Design) were all basically the same game with no major chances or improvements. The PS2 suffered from the same problem and now that the PS3 isn't as easy to develop for I can see why it's sales are hurting.
Losing the CD add-on may've hurt Nintendo's sales, but they kept their pride. I consider the Virtual Boy a way bigger screw-up, because it led to the firing of Gunpei Yokoi, easily Nintendo's greatest engineer.

Yes. OOT might even have had voice-acting if it was released on a CD.
Have the N64 graphics aged well? Mario Kart 64 looks awfull on a modern television.
Pride had nothing to do with it. Nintendo underestimated the upcoming increase in game sizes.

But if OoT was on CD then there would be a lot more loading screens and stuff, have you realised that 64 rarely had many loading screens while the PS did have quite a few. Cartridges hold less but they are quite faster, also the fact you did not need memory cards back then was quite good as I hated a bit of the trying to not use all the space on memory cards. Also a lot of the Nintendo games are good without voice acting, otherwise you would end up with a lot of characters in smash bros with specific voices.

I agree that short load times are good, but if cartridges were superior to CDs, then they'd still be used. Allthough voice-acting can't make a crappy game good, it can make a good game (eg. OOT) even better.

who wants voice-acting in Zelda? if it'd had that it would've been like Final Fantasy, and that would've been lame. actually, even the FF games on the PS1 didn't have voice-acting and they were still great (well not VIII but still).
Nintendo at least has the courtesy to release higher res versions for the Virtual Console download. Does Sony even allow PS1 games for download on PSN? Only in Japan. Never understood that...
Just because you have a ton of data taking up a cartridge or disc doesn't make it great. Batman Forever had to load between each screen because of the graphics, but it's far from a good game. Blu-Ray has 50GB worth of memory on each disc but good luck finding a game that takes advantage of it. And don't say MGS4 because half that content is cinematics and it doesn't count.

Who wants technological progress?
I have never played a single game that would have been better without voice-acting (if the voice-acting is any good, that is).
A SNES game on Virtual Console does also cost twice as much as a PS1 game. Making a high-res version of a N64 game is easy, by the way.
Rockstar Games encountered problems when making GTA IV because of the limited capacity of the DVD. Just because no PS3 games can fill up a blu-ray today, doesn't mean that they can't in a couple of years. Ridge Racer on PS1 was less than 4 MB (excluding the soundtrack). During the end of the 32/64-bit generation, many PS1 games would fill more than one CD, though.

Well some games like the Banjo Kazooie games are pretty good with there lack of voice acting, partialy as they can use the same sound for every language and it is a good style. But in the game Diddy kong raceing they actualy gave Banjo a voice which kind of ruins his style. People often complain in things that the different voice actors dont match the character, but just have sounds like grunts and every language can get a simular experience.
But the company that does Final Fantasy games changed over to doing games for PlayStation as since they were using disk they could put a lot of things over a few disk with the individual cards. You cant do that with a cartidge as since the memory is on the cartridge you couldnt take information across. Also on another note cartridges get more enviromental damage such as rust, yet disks get more easily scrtatched.
Though cartridges aren't dead, the DS still uses them and I think they are quite usefull for a hand held consoel, and yes the DS counts as a consoel. I dont know how the PSP is with disks, but often cartridges are a bit more dureable, makeing them ideal for kids and you can just leave the lying around and are easy to put into game.
