SALEM - Ha'ayara Bo'eret
An Israeli doom metal band covering an old poem from 1938 about the holocaust. More unique a cover can never be. The whole song has a very typical jewish intro but once the guitars come into play it becomes a very doomy metal song. The eerie sound suits the theme and the lyrics very well. Add the video with the footage from the concentration camps, and the song gives you an almost apocaliptic feeling. The song to me is the perfect anti-racism statement, and it is a really unique cover. It has a meaning, it is done with a vision, and it is totally different than the original version which is more a poem often enchanted than a real song.
I wont put the URL to the video due to the shocking nature of the camps footage. Those who wish to see it, browse the web, browse YouTube.
The song is sung in Hebrew and the title means "The town is burning". It was originally a poem in Yiddish from 1938 by Jewish poet Mordechai Gebirtig. He wrote it after nazis burnt down a Jewish ghetto near Krakow.
