Religion in schools

I was just wondering what you all think of this, at my old school more then half the songs the choirs sang were relegious in backgroud and a couple of relegious books were taught (generally in more advanced classes that the students knew they were coming but still.) Should this still be allowed and how is this not violating the seperation of church and state but creationism is?

PS None of the views here are my own just wondering what you think.

I think this is the wrong forum for it; this will probably be moved to Philosophy/Politics/Religion.

Anyway, I don't think this is violating anything. The songs are probably sung because they are art, as is the literature, and that is why they're appreciated. Go too far with the whole seperation of church and state yarn, and you'll end up trying to strip any and all mentions of religion from the public sphere. This is not only ridiculous, it's impossible.
