Why are we always required to kill ourselves to come up with a gift for people we barely know? Why can't we just kind of say "It's the thought that counts so...HHHHMMMMM...there you go, I thought about it". I honestly couldn't care less if I receive a gift at the office or not. Again, I barely know these people. Its not like we're best friends or anything. We're all only here because we need to eat.

Ahhhh, just buy some cookies or something and set it out with a card that says "Merry Christmas everyone" who knows, you may start something that will take the burden off of everyone who thinks they need to buy individual gifts, by just bringing a goody for everyone. I personally just pass out Christmas cards to everyone with a candy cane on it. It's a nice gesture and it's inexpensive, and it's all I can afford.

Why not simply give them a card that on the inside reads "As soon as you're done reading this and look up, you'll find me pointing a gun at you", and then when they do and see that you're unarmed they'll be so relieved that they'll completely forget that you spent .59 cents on the card.

Thank Adonai I'm a jew and don't have to seriously answer the question. If I had to, I might have said something like "a simple gesture is all that's needed". But you can forget about it. I never give practical advice.

Sorry, I was venting a bit. While I was off, the office drew names. Now I'm supposed to buy a gift for someone that I'm not entirely sure who she is. Oh well, Bath&Body gift card, done. If you don't like it, who asked you!

Do NT's actually enjoy this crap?

Some do but many do not.

We quit doing this years ago. Everyone was pretty tired of it. What you do is this: if you overhear people saying how hard it is to get a good gift, suggest an alternative for next year. Or, a few days after the gift exchange tell a few people that it was fun (okay, lie just a little) but perhaps you-all might try something new next year.

Its important to plant the seeds of what to do next year early. Sometimes these things just get a life of their own and you do them year in year old because no one really even gives it any though.

We went from giving gifts to each other to collecting for a needy family. We then went from collecting for a family (because only a few contributed and they got upset about it) to becoming a toys for tot collection station. A few years ago we again switched but its a similar thing to toys for tots.

Of course, the gift giving may be the pet project of a manager, in that case you're stuck with it.

Suggest a secret santa thing.

Then you only buy one gift for one person who you wont know at the point therefore it can be something silly. Or just buy alcohol.

I don't drink alcohol. That would be a pointless gift to me.

You could always do something strange, like make a 'collectable card game' with an office theme. It wouldn't need to have any real rules, and you could put amusing descriptions on them.

And whenever you need to give gifts to people, you can just print out a few and wrap them.

Ala "Printer Jam"
"No characters may act for 3 turns while everyone frantically tries to contact the maintanence guy who seems to have left his cell phone off."

"Transfer to Tech Support"
"Target character takes 2 points of stress every turn.'

"Sociopath"
"0 Empathy, 0 Talent, 3 Communication, 10 Stress Capacity
Sociopath can force any other character to do it's work, because's manipulative and scary.
Sociopath may transfer it's Stress to any other character you control."

"Christmas at the office"
"All characters take 5 points of stress as they try to find gifts for people they don't know."

"Steal office supplies"
"You stick it to the man and raid the supply closet. Reduce target character you control's stress by 1d6 points."

"Insider Trading"
"You take advantage of the incompetance of others via the stock market, and you make so much money that you can quit your job and the win the game."
