I'd say Nerdy or Otaku, both words basically mean the same thing, except Otaku implies that Aspie has more of a leaning towards liking things that have to do with Japan.

I think it depends on the individual aspie.

I've known a number of people throughout life who I am now convinced had AS or HFA. I had no concept of myself being on the spectrum, but I did know that I felt like I was wired differently. Here are some of the thoughts I had about certain individuals who I now think were autistic/AS:

Person 1: Nervous, eccentric, funny-walk (He was an interesting guy, but he was afraid of all women, so talking to him wasn't an option.)

Person 2: Tries too hard, laughs at jokes he obviously doesn't get, picks nose (I didn't like this guy because he always smelled like poo.)

Person 3: Obsessed with Barry Manilow, sad

I have been described as:

Spazz (especially at a younger age when I was so nervous all the time)
Honest
Funny
Creative
Quiet
Shy
Weird
Space Cadet

But hey, that's just this NT's opinion :D

Ditto,
Very refreshing in a world which seems to be full of people wearing masks all the time. I am honest to the point of stupidy and my other NT friends don't relate to it - though they do value it! With my AS friends (only two!) :) it is so easy I can just be myslef and I won't get judged and if i offend then I will know. Wish more people in the world were so open.

Huh?

That's what a lot of NT's probably think when they hear the words asperger syndrome. 8)

I've never seen a neurotypical imitating asps in general.

I appreciate the post. I think most people here would. You might want to check out this link to a very well done radio show which featured a father with a son with AS and how he handled the situation. I found it fascinating and inspiring.

I found the discussion on that web page interesting too.

A previous supervisor called me a dork. I overheard him say this when he thought I wasn't around. Plus my current supervisor told some of my co-workers that I'm strange. Yes it hurts sometimes, but I'm starting to learn to ignore it.

Or, maybe if you think about social situations your in with people after the fact, you can learn from thinking about what you say and improve yourself. Nothing is wrong with self-improvement.

What the hell is WRONG with this guy?"

Space Cadet<<<<<<<<<<<------

LOL! "Space cadet" was practically my middle name as a teenager. (Uh, and ten years on, too, come to think of it...)

Friends seem to think I am loyal, funny, sarcastic, intelligent, "quirky" and possessing a temper and foul moods of which one should NOT get on the wrong side.

Acquaintances and not-close work colleagues think I am snobby, distant, rude, condescending and lazy (cuz I do my work in half the time they do and with so few problems that they don't notice me getting it done!). Those who actually interact with me and do so in a straightforward way think I am great at my job, helpful, resourceful, and innovative.

I've noticed a trend in the posts here - the opinions of friends tend to be almost completely opposite of those of more distant acquaintances. Interesting - and unfortunate.
