So glad you are all here. Thank you for letting me be a part of your group. We need help finding a doctor that will not demand taking medication and sees AS as a cognitive style.
If anyone knows a doctor within 500 miles please give me their name, location and phone number. We need some help with college and social services. My son has high functioning in math music pattern recognition philosophy. Both parents are artists and not great thinkers like my sons but we are smart enough to get help. Any help you can give will be appreciated.
Yours in the struggle,
Sylvia

And again I'm chuckling. Parents "aren't great thinkers like my sons"....self-denigration?

Oh, I forgot, the saviours....Pretty damn funny...

Yes, I can see where you'd get that idea. As if I was being manipulated by my son. That has happened. Establishing boundaries and what I can do and can't do, what is his responsibility and making that clear is important.

I guess I should have clarified that, I have mercury poisoning and even after taking out all my mercury fillings have some trouble thinking... I feel overwhelmed with the medical community to help my son. All that seems available is a new brand of drugs that have so many dangerous side effects, getting HELP from a professional is a little scary at best. So I feel helpless to help my son. I'm here so that I might learn from others here to save some time and money and meet friends and hopefully encourage and be there for each other.

If you wanting to avoid the medicinal route then steer clear of psychiatrists or psychologists who share the same building with a psychiatrist. Or psychologists who are in with neuropsychologists. It seems like psychs who aren't under the influence of other "professionals" for some reason are less likely to force pills on people.

I've never had a psychologist try to steer me towards pharmaceuticals. If there are some who do that, they're probably psychiatrists incognito.

I saw a psychologist who said "you better get your MD to put you on medication or I won't be able to handle you". You would have thought I was swinging from the light fixtures from the way she spoke about me. But instead I always sat quietly and rather meekly on her couch and she had to pry words out of me. I'm seeing someone different now.
