My dog, Sakurakaya, had a seizure tonight... first one in a few years. We thought she had grown out of them, but it appears not. Been very upset, shaky; she's my rock when I'm home alone and have an anxiety attack. In thinking back, they've always occurred at night, after she has eaten, and in the winter. Worrying sick about her, but we're two hours from the nearest emergency vet and I can't drive because of the concussion. Have generally found closer bonds with animals than people, don't know what I would do losing her right now.

I'm so sorry to hear about your poor little dog! Why does she have seizures? Has something been diagnosed?

Have you gotten a ride to the vet from somebody? (I don't know how long ago you started this thread). I hope so. I'll keep a good thought for little Sakurakaya.

I know just how you feel - I'm closer to my cats than to most people I know. It would kill me if one of them were ill.

It's later in the evening here, and do not have anyone who can drive me down. Have spent tonight sitting with her, helped her avoid a second one. Unknown cause, she was tested when she was younger and they thought it was either congenital imbalance, or something she is consuming that is causing them. She's back now after a couple hours, took time for her fear to subside and the tremors to cease, but she seems ok at the moment. I know they can't do much for seizures if there is too much delay, and with how far we are from anything, the emergency vet says they wouldn't learn much at this point.

She has been with me through some times that I don't know if I would have made it through without her to hold onto... very scared.

Awwww...I'm sorry to hear that. :(

Mine that was given to me by my grandma before she passed away died of spinal stroke at only 2 years of age.

Has this been happening a lot or just this first time?

If she's still having them, I would keep her tongue out of her mouth. Like humans, they can choke on them.

Has happen years ago; then, it was perhaps one every couple months. Nothing for a few years. Had one episode tonight, avoided a second, she is acting normal now and sleeping on the bed downstairs. I am sorry to hear about your lost furry friend... miss every one that I've had in my life. Been told to keep hand out of her mouth, but do move her lips to help her breathe and keep her from biting/choking on her tongue. Very thankful she seems to be OK, just in shock.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've had two dogs that have had seizures - both jack russell terriers. One had grand mal seizures, my current one has behavioral seizures like boundless energy, fly biting and aggressive behavior.
The one with grand mal seizures stopped having them after we moved to a new house. I really don't know why that was.
I hope your dog stops having those seizures.

These are grand mal; can you tell me more about the boundless energy and biting? She isn't aggressive in the least, but she was exhibiting rampant energy about 30 minutes before the episode, and does airbite on occasion though it seemed to be when she wanted something/got excited. We made it through the night without any more; see what today brings. My beagle also has seizures, but hasn't in almost 6 years; the two dogs are unrelated to each other.

sorry to hear that murakanoshi. if it makes you feel better- my dog has been having epileptic seizures for 4 years now, and he's just starting his 16th year of life and being in great condition.

I heard there's some meds that taken regularily can prevent the seizures, not sure if that applies to your dog as well (she's lovely btw)

Hi M,

how is Sakurakaya doing a few weeks out?

For bipeds, there are meds you can keep on-hand. It sounds like you have a good sense of when she is pre-seizure "off."

We're doing better; limited time outside as to not let her get more environmental exposure, and no recurrences. :) Just have to get back home to her after the trip for the holidays.
