I'm sure you've all heard of Denis Leary's "Why We Suck"- essentially, a long-winded rant about how everyone in America (except Leary himself)...well, sucks.

I'm sure you've also heard about how Leary spreads lies and disinformation about autism and calls it "comedy"

I have a suggestion. Go to Amazon dot com, make a small purchase, and register online. Look up "Why We Suck". By posting your review and rating, you'll be letting Denis know how our community feels.

As I understand it, his autism rant was against parents who get a fake diagnosis of autism just so their kid can get extra help in school.

Perhaps you could post links to prove your point. My understanding is that he's protesting parents that push doctors for diagnosis for their kids as an excuse for their kids not achieving.

For example, the latest stir, quoted a paragraph about this. But it totally ignored the next paragraph where Leary talked about some friends of his who have an autistic child and all the challenges they face.

tO, I'm sorry but I beg to differ

As I understand, Leary has gone so far as to say "lower-level" forms of autism (Asperger's, in particular) does not exist, but merely a way for "underachieving" adults to justify their failures

There's no reason to actually BUY the book; I'm sure it's available at everyone's local library :)

Negative reviews (on Amazon, for example) have been known to have a very real effect on authors' royalties. There's no reason why we shouldn't engage in, shall we say, a bit of sabotage?

The guy also makes fun of Aids and Cancer then turns around and makes glassy-eyed appeals for his firefighter's charity. Just because someone's blunt doesn't make them honest.

No thanks, I'll just take your word for it.

I really wouldn't take him that seriously especially about auties. That's part of his act just to piss people off. Anyone in their right mind would know better.

Besides, he admits he's an as*hole.

Denis Leary became famous after stealing material from Bill Hicks. I would not be too offended by some one who made their carreer by stealing from someone else. (No Cure for Cancer, at some points, is near verbatim to Bill Hicks Relentless.)

http://annleary.com/blog/2008/10/during ... ave_1.html

His wife's blog entry on the matter seems alright-and she provides his email, should anyone wish to directly comment to him.

Have enjoyed his work over the years & hope his comprehension of the nuanced complexity of autism spectrum (and of those of us who happen to be diagnosed within it) improves.
