(auties can play too)
Best and worst surprise present?

Best: Scented candle that smelled like some kind of weird vanilla apple magic fruit pie. I was smelling that sucker all day long in ninth grade.

Worst: Gift certificate to a massage place. Not only did she go over the price limit, but I can't stand being touched. I didn't even know of anyone to "regift" it to because it seemed so horribly inappropriate.

"Here. Here's a piece of paper so some stranger can touch you all over for twenty minutes."

I... uh... pretended to like it but damn. This is why I regret not telling people I am how I am.

Best: Nintendo Wii

Worst: A talking Fat Lady portrait (yes from Harry Potter). It would talk every time you passed it.
I think it was demon possessed, because when I removed the batteries it still wouldn't shut up.

Best: A Purple feather pen with purple glittery ink. I would write with that pen and ONLY with that pen until I used every bit of ink! I loved it because nobody else had a pen that used purple glittery ink. :P My writing was easily distinguishable from the rest.

Worst: Three ugly Santa Claus ornaments. They were hideous! I was so disappointed I could not even feign happiness over the gift. :(

Best: Nintendo Wii (Thanks mom!)

Worst: Used stationary kit - Why would I need that? I have plenty of stationaries.

Best: Chipper Jones autographed bat.

Worst: An old barbie tin with a random assortment of candy that looked as if it where several years old. It was fourteen at the time.

Wow, my best and worst would probably have been the reverse of that. I don't like things that are scented in general, so the candle never would have been used. On the other hand, I *love* massages (although I've never had a professional one). I've never gotten either of those two items as gifts though.

In real life:

Best: Gift certificate to a book store.
Worst: Various scented bath items.

YARGGGG! I love purple glitter. When I was in third grade, the student teacher gave everyone in the class little presents on her last day and my present was a little glue pen that wrote in sticky glitter glue. It was pretty, it was messy, and I could make stuff glittery and purple and then peel it off and crumble it up in little purple glitter balls and fling it at things.

I think mine was the best out of anybody's. It wasn't for christmas, but it was still pretty sweet.

Great topic!

Best: a stack of CDs of obscure but beautiful music I never would otherwise have discovered

Worst: a large, tacky made-in-China snowman ornament (too large to discretely dispose of)

Best: hard to say... unfortunately over the years most of the gift's I've received have ultimately been destroyed, usually in a cross country move that I didn't want to make but was forced to because I couldn't keep a job for more than a year at a time. The one that springs to mind for me though is that my uncle George one year in my teens got me a big leather (imitation) bound sketch diary. At the time I liked the object - in retrospect I'm more impressed by the fact that he seemed to take a genuine interest in me.

I'm pretty sure things that my sister got me rank really up there, I'm just not pulling any up, which is odd, because I hadn't thought about that sketch diary in years. Like when I went to the neurologist last week or so and he said "name words beginning with the letter a" and do I come up with words I use often? Yeah, sure a few, but then BAM Adirondack is all I can think... I had to go home and look it up on Wikipedia to figure out what it was! ;) I honestly had no clue what it was before that, but it interfered with my neuro testing, so I had to know. heh.

Worst: Arguyle socks. Apparently my uncle John thinks every kid dreams of growing up to be a ruthless business man who screws everyone they know out of money... and arguyle socks are apparently the first key to success in screwing people out of money. Personally I think that was only his dream.

Best: roll of 1000 assorted stickers (you should've seen, back when that was my SpI...)
Worst: Leather purse, which caused sensory issues (strange).

Best: The fish in the bowl on my desk at work. He is my buddy, although I may space out on him too often.
Worst: Any gift certificate. I feel as if I have been given an errand.

Ok, this is a secret, but since you asked.....

At my local bank they have this special offer thingy (not assoicated with holidays, but my coincidence, I guess): FREE pony (that means stuffed plush pony, not a real live pony) IF and only if you refer a friend to open an account with my bank. So WHY can't I just have a pony?

Isn't it sort-of extortion that you need your friend to open an account so I can get the pony? I really want a pony.
I checked the offer out - turns out 'friend' needs to deposit at least $100 to open the account. Look, I don't know how much a pony costs, but not minimum of $100. Is it too much to ask for a pony? I'm a good customer, poor, but good. And loyal. Can my bank truly not afford to give me one of their ponies? They have several ponies lined up at my bank - would they really miss one? I'd give a pony a good home too.

I'll never get a pony for Christmas.

Best would be Doctor who T-shirts saying "one day my tardis will come" and "I'm a Doctor Who-lligan" or a DVD Player.

Worst would be a blow up rubber chair. I don't know what it would have felt like as my dad put it up when I was on Holiday and the proceeded to explode it with his cigarette. That or the trainset he got me that I wasn't allowed to go near in case I broke it. Which he then stood on accidently and broke.

Best: Ipod

Worst: A globe. I can't tell you what a thrill it is to be 8-years-old and get a globe. My aunt struggled under the delusion that smart kids always want educational toys, and not the good educational toys (like maybe "put together your own weather station", but the boring educational toys (so what does this do again, sit there - nope, wait, you can make it spin...). I would have much rather gotten something Barbie-related, but nope, I got something that was actually out of date within a very short time (wars, countries breaking up, new ones forming, etc - hey everyone, look, the Soviet Union! ...whoops, wait, too late, thats gone now...)

My sister fared worse from her - one year she got a "Zok", which was a sock, with a clay face stuck into it, and it was supposed to be to save money in. What it was is a very trashy tacky tourist souvenir, and not an appropriate gift to give a child. My sister still talks of the Zok.
