I think that the month's name should be changed to Meanuary. One recent January, somebody whom I've thought of as a friend turned on me. I think that I might have seen him as maybe more than a friend. I already have a bit of a rough time in January to begin with. There doesn't seem to be that togetherness between family members, and people don't seem as warm to begin with. People are less tolerant in January. I can bring my family members closer together. Play a card game with my mum, when I stay over there on Monday. I can buy her a set of round knitting looms, and teach her to knit easy things that she can sell and make a profit off of. The two of us can take my dog, Chico for a walk, together. I can keep the Christmas spirit alive, through the year, by doing these things.

The thing that poured the salt into the wound of January, is that I've had an aspie turn on me, a couple of Januarys ago. Imagine that you're trying to get your head around January to begin with, and than almost being French kissed by some stupid man in a wheelchair, and than having a member from a certain web community that you really like as a friend turning on you, after finding out that you can't wear real underwear, anymore. Than after finding out, and you've been assaulted by a cripple, and you're making your way through what's your darkest month of the year, to begin with, and than that person turns against you, with really nasty parting words, and than trolls you for a while.

I'd like some tips on how to deal with these past hurts, so that January can be as tolerable for me, as it used to be, before 2007. I want to have as good of a January, as I can. I know that January was and will never be as happy as December, for me, but I want January to be for me, what it used to.

ok. Sounds like a bit of a message to me. I'm not a fan of January either, it's cold, the light comes in at an angle that always gets in my eyes when I'm driving, and that doesn't last that long (short days, long nights). That part is Seasonal Affected Disorder (teach me to be born in the desert...;),
but still, it's just not a pleasant time of the year.

One thought, everyone has New Year's Resolutions they're trying to keep...and failing at that.

People can be asses in any season, it's probably more noticeable when the weather's rough.

Hope things get better for you.

I agree with you with people being arses when the weather is nasty. I know a lot of people who are like that.

I also don't agree with the New Years resolutions that people make to break. However saying that, I should make my own resolution to let go of what happened, and move on.

I wonder if I might have SAD, myself.

Thank you for responding. :O)

True, January can be the bleakest month of the year. It is winter at its height here in Ohio. There is very little that one can do outside. And it is so dismal outside.

So what I do is this. I make January the month to renew interests and work on them. It is the month for me to restart my work on my model amusement park---which is a part of a hugh HO scale model train layout with over 250 model buildings that I have been collecting for years. I have just gotten an interest in the circus and have decided to buy a model circus tent and make that a part of my layout.

This January is also going to be the start of my new ministry in music on my hammered dulcimer at local area churches. I have already contacted several churches and have gotten positive responses from some of them.

So what I am saying is---January is a great planning month. It is the month to refresh your interests and enjoy them. It is a month to dream about the fun of summer---which really isn't that far away.

January is the one month of winter that I like, especially compared to the other two...

December has Christmas/Hanukkah/whatever you might celebrate, forcing countless family gatherings reminding me that I haven't started any family yet, and the 9000 Kay and Zales jewelers ads reminding me that I'm still all alone... Add the rampant consumerism on top of that and it's no wonder I have high blood pressure during the month of December... At least this time around the 5 college projects I had to do kept my mind off of it for half of the month...

On the other end of things, February is a great travesty that contains the absolute worst day of the year: Valentines Day... Need I go on? (as an added bonus, I don't even have anything major going on then, so I can't even distract myself...)

That's got me thinking about my old interest in cooking. :) I can cook a nice meal for my friends, once a month, and get them to pay $2 each for the meal, to help with the food expenses. I could also renew my interests in movies and Routemasters.

February is almost right up there with January, for me. Valentine's day isn't a real holiday, and it just reminds me of my past experiences with guys, who have turned on me.

The other thing that helps is that my birthday is in January, improving my perception of the month in that respect...

For me it is summer in January, but because of my skin condition and fear of water I don't really enjoy it.
What I don't like about January is that the holidays are over and that I'll have to once again start looking for work. I'm going to have assistance but I'm still nervous about it. So, I'll either continue to be unemployed or or go on some work program.

Funny, but I have always hated January too. And it is summer here in January.

My favourite month is March.

I've let go with that emotional baggage, associated with that guy turning on me, on the most depressing day of my year, in 07. I'm more able to welcome my darkest month of the year.

Since I brought up the fact that January is my month to rejuvenate my interests, I have gone through with my plans to add a circus to my train/amusement park layout. Yesterday I ordered HO scale model Big Top, Menagerie, Sideshow, Dining, Kitchen, Horse Top, and Dressing Room circus tents for a full circus model. Now I am researching all I can about circuses and sideshows---mainly during the historical period of the early to mid 20th century. What is neat about these circus tents is that they are made of canvas with brass eyelets, wooden poles, and braided rope---just like the real circus tents. Now, I have some real plans for January---to put all this together when my order arrives from Wisconsin.

During the cold winter months I love to plan stuff like this. Now I will enjoy looking for historical images of sideshow signs to print out in HO scale for placement on the sideshow tent. And I will try to put together a circus program outlining all the acts that would take place in my circus if it were for real.

I usually find snowy days the best for working with my projects. Does anyone else find that true for them?

That was low and unwarented of them. Typeing "you make me sick" is far enough, but trolling you? WTF is their problem!

:( 'sigh' Yes getting over a friend bites. Just give it more time at least.

I'll give it a little more time. I'm feeling confident now, but when that date comes around, I might not feel so confident. January 2010 will be a much happier one, because the Vancouver 2010 Olympics will be on. I could think about the fact that the Olympics will be on in the next coming January, to get through this coming January. It's tough losing a friend on the darkest day of my year, but I've learned not to do that to other people. I've never done that to anybody, but I know not to do that to anybody, in the future.
