Well,, when I saw Dubstep had it's own thread I felt like I HAD to start one for ambient music... Well, not strictly ambient music but it and it's related genres; electronic, electroacoustic, chillout, Ambient IDM, minimalism, sound collage etc.

Here's some stuff to get us started;

L.Pierre, The Green Kingdom, My Fun, Brian Eno, Boards of Canada, Darren McClure, Tycho, Ulrich Schnauss, Autechre

Does anyone out there feel this stuff?

ooooh yes :D

Boards of Canada would probably be my all-time number one
Autechre
Susumu Yokota
Apex Twin
Biosphere
all Warp stuff

also minimal and more post-rocky things but to many to list them.

That's it pakled! Environmental music, that can be listened to either actively or passively. Music for Airports is one of my favourite albums, and it's a great album to start with ambient music.Here's the link to listen online.

This is an internet radio station worth listening to if you do like this kind of stuff;

Peripheral Music on Last.fm

guarantee you'll find a new band or composer to fall in love with :)

yeah I think he made all of his songs available there.

there's also Big Chill Festival channel there, they usually have loads of great chill-out, ambient, minimal etc artists on.

Intergalactic FM Channel 3

Good stuff. Though it's more space music than ambient. But eh, whatever.

Gods of Electricity got me into it. It's a side-project for the drummer of Black 47. Trent Reznor did an album for Nine Inch Nails called "Ghosts" that's in that vein too. You can download all 36 tracks for $5 I think...includes a bunch of cool wallpapers and such too.

Brian Eno did an album with David Byrne recently. My sister has been raving about it and she went to see David Byrne on his recent tour. Eno also produced the latest Coldplay album.

I've been messing around with ambient stuff, and I didn't know about Dubstep...I assumed it was related to Reggae Dub. I have a myspace with an Ambient track on it...and an acoustic guitar one as well.

I don't know any artists but I listen to it on the radio a lot. It's great for sleeping and for doing homework.

Do feel I must give a shout for the record label The Land Of

The stuff released there is pretty great, I ordered two of their CD-Rs- beautiful handcrafted things, and they arrived promptly despite having to traverse the Atlantic. The music is just as good- there is a range of reasonably priced dolwnloads and you can even get My Fun's album (made by Justin Hardison, who runs the site) for free.

Check it out.

Can't live without 'ask the mountain' and 'alpha' by Vangelis :roll:
some Arcana and Lustmord tracks. Tangerine Dream.

OF COURSE!! Ambient and trance both are my current
obsessions!

I bought a album by Ulrich Schnauss months ago.
I also love B. Fleischmann ,Proem.

Ambient music is so mysterious! :P
