I have never used either, even through extensive WoW raiding. I have however used "cwned"...once.

I guess I just can't see the point of overusing such terms, especially when there are so many other great words that can be used to greater effect. Words like "obliterated", "vaporized", and "shellacked"...I've even thrown out a Beatles reference in "O-BLUE-terate them!"

I use them occasionally. Single player games or games with co-op, if I'm doing good I might refer to it as a good round or that I'm doing good or that the team is good. With online games I might occasionally if I'm doing really good, eg: Man I'm owning today. O

I think "pwned" is a silly term (ditto to "lol")...I'm pretty sure it's just a typo that caught on, like "teh".

Though I've heard a theory that it stands for "pistol owned" (when someone kills someone else with a really crappy weapon).

I'm fine with someone saying 'owned', but he someone actually pronounces pwned with the 'P' that when it gets on my nerves.

It is, but for some reason I like it. I don't think I've ever actually used it though, just enjoyed seeing it, like when the clocks hits 12:34.

13:37 is a much better time. I have a T-shirt that says MCCCXXXVII, and now I'm thinking I need one with a picture of a clock at 1:37 pm...

The story I heard about the origin of pwned is that it came from back in the pre-historical days of BBSs, on some of which you could play chess, and checkmating some noob with your pawn, aka "pawning them", was the ultimate glorious victory... sounds like an urban legend to me, though, a typo of "owned" seems equally likely.

I have always seen "pwn" as a higher degree of beatage than "own"

what would you hate more, getting beaten by a mature player, an immaue player, or an immature player than states they've just pwned you?

it's a war cry, simple as. pwned is meant to be a slur on 'owned' which is meant to be offensive yet still hold some humour, at least that's how i see it.

"pwn" is what happens when lazy typists misspell "own" and the misspelling becomes popular. basically they mean the same.
