After reading the "you people" thread. And I think the OP has a point. Maybe the place is just over crowded now. But it seems to be getting like Myspace forums. Even worse in fact. Cause a lot of people on the spectrum don't have a pinch of humility. Think about it. Some new member comes along who has trouble socalising, feels alone and thinks this place will be the support they are looking for. Then clicks on the first thread they come across and see some outreagous flame war. I'm sure they're gonna feel more than at home :?

[Edit because that wasn't really funny like I first thought it would be]

It's just too easy to be a prick on the internet, really. But people need a place to vent, sometimes, and better here than in the middle of a crowded subway train, or taking a rifle to school one day.

I'll have to agree with you there. I haven't been here real long, but, things were more friendly just six or eight months ago. Hopefully, it's just a phase. :chin:

Yeah...the feeling of WP has changed I think. Or maybe it's me. But when I first joined it felt more supportive, more accepting of strangeness. Folks here just seem to be less AS than they used to. Maybe the mix of people has changed. Probably having such a large membership has made it feel less 'friendly' too.

It seems less like a gathering of autistic people and more like a gathering of NT people lately. I personally want things back the way they were when I joined much more hospitable.

I think it's strange that anyone would think that if someone is an Aspie, they're somehow incapable of being a dick to other people. They come in all shapes, all sizes.

Indeed. In fact, given that probematic social skills are supposedly the crux of our condition, isn't it perhaps even more likely that we might end up coming across (intentionally or unintentionally) as gits? :P

As the poster above me said, anyone can be a prat, NT or AS etc.

 Well I am on the spectrum and I would like to think that I have humility?

Wrong Planet losing its way............surely not! 8O

I have always found this forum the friendliest and fairest on the net, please be assured I have been on the circuit long enough to have explored others.

So to those who are not comfortable, apologies maybe some of us are not making you feel welcome. I do hope that is not the case. BUT WELCOME anyway :D

Flaming is always a risk when you post on a forum, especially one with so many folk and differing opinions. It takes all sorts to make a world so my advice is stick with those you feel comfortable with and don't take too much as personal. You will always get the few that try to spoil it for the rest. But here I have found genuinely well researched posters who are passionate and caring about other peoples needs. I always recommend this forum to my friends because it is 'simply the best'! And it is fair!

Hope those who are wavering a bit decide to stay :D

the site is defiantly being abused, its a great site, and most people here are great, but there is an element here that wants
to test the boundaries of acceptable behavior and can't handle the fact that there are rules here, the whole thing with the
banned members picture photo shopped into a Che Guevara poster is idiotic.

I love wp, and I think there are many good things, there still is much support etc. Though I do agree members get more agressive, I notice too slight differences from when I came here until now, there's more hostility. I don't know where it comes from, but I too hope it's only a phase.

I think WP is just going through phases, like a lot of sites do.

When I first stumbled across the site, probably a couple of years ago, there was a heck of a lot of flaming & trolling (Atomik psycho anyone???). When I re-visited the site a few months ago, it seemed a lot friendlier and perhaps had got back on track a bit more. Even PPR seems a bit less flamey now ... :P

The site's probably just going through a bit of a downturn, but I'm sure it will pick up again (and it's certainly not as dire as when there was all the flaming).

Even though the membership seems high, you rarely see more than a few dozen people posting, and that doesn't seem to change much.

I like WP---I stay away from the flame wars. I have checked out many other message boards for autism, and few are user friendly. I do have some trouble with WP just in that it gets so busy that it takes forever to load a page sometimes. The good thing about having so many members is that there is always something interesting going on.

There is only one other web site for autism and other disabilities that I support and that is neurointegrity. They (we) don't allow flaming there and are all about support with none of the other crap.

mods can be doing a lot but they do not always do it publically so it wont always noticible to end users, they also dont have mod titles under their names either.

people have always taken advantage of WP,and this is just one of those things that happens now and again,a phase, everything comes in phases on wp,like cure topics and trolls.

WP is still an important and worthwhile service to both the autistic and autism community,so maybe if everyone reported bullying theyve seen, banned multiple account users or trolling or whatever,it may help to clean it up a bit more,as the community is only what the users make it.

Wonky orbit topic

I have noticed changes in some members' postings, myself. This may be due to age, mood, and other factors. :?

I am able to stay focused and consistent because not much changes in me or my life, and I like to remain familiar, even to myself. This may not always be an option to others here, and this is what Benjaminbreeg might be seeing.

Some of the more consistent members have not been posting (much) of late: Ed Almos, Alex, Anbuend, Jrknothead, and Strapples. I have not seen Smelena or her mother, either. There was also a guy named Morning After who has disappeared into cyberspace. And some others are not as posty as they have been previously.

But analytical Sartresue is always here, the same avatar, redundant ideas, but comforting nonetheless. :P
