What's the best way to re-size an image to be larger, without it ending up being really pixilated (or to remove pixelation)?

Thanks.

That depends on how much an image is blown up, and how many mega pixels the
image had, a low mega pixel jpeg with have noticeable pixelation if doubled or
tripled in size, raw or tif images which have a higher pixel count are able to be
blown up more.

A photographer friend told me he uses some software to minimise the pixelation as images are expanded. I don't know what he uses but essentially it does some sort of automatic blending process between adjacent pixels so there are no harsh "blocks" of pixels. He said something about it creating more "triangles" if that makes any sense.

Sounds like something that Photoshop (or if you're broke like me, the Gimp...;) could solve

however, both just interpret information. Neither will supply missing information. Still, you can fake it to an extent.

After expanding the image, a Sharpen filter might help somewhat, at least in Paint Shop Pro.

Convert it to a vector image.
