...insist on pressing Ctrl+Prt Scr or Alt+Prt Scr? (In windows - I don't know about other operating systems)

You just need to press the print screen button!

Alt+Prt Scr copies a screenshot of the current window (instead of the whole screen) to the clipboard.

As far as I know, Ctrl+Prt Scr doesn't do anything more than just pressing Print Screen.

Interesting - I did not know this. Thank you.

Another question: did the print screen function formerly capture the cursor as well?

Command-Shift-3 saves it into a file on the desktop. :) With Print Screen (Windows), you still have to paste it into a paint thing and save it as a pic.

On my laptop I technically have to push Fn+PrtSc, but that's just the why my keyboard is laid out.

I guess. That isn't to say, that said function will work on a PC.

Command is CTRL?

No, Command is the Mac equivalent to the Windows or Super key. (This I learned after installing Linux and Vista on my Mac)

wish it was so easy taking screenshots in Xubuntu,as far as know, there's no key for it and the only way have read to do it is through GIMP.

when possible-using just the one key is great, people who use more just make it more difficult for themselves.

So there.

KingdomOfRats give this a try on your linex box.
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g/xn ... linux.html
and it works in windows too. Can bind a key to screencap and less load time than gimp.

In ubuntu you can press the Print Screen button on your keyboard to take a screenshot of the whole screen. Hold Alt and Print Screen button down and it will take a screenshot of the window that the mouse is pointed on.

I assume it the same for Xubuntu

It depens on the MS Operating system you use. I've got XP and Windows 2000, and they have different combos. One will copy the entire print screen, and one just the current window.

The one I've always wondered about is Scroll lock. When's the last time someone used it? when's the first?...;)

 I've always wondered that too.

In fact I've forgotten how to use it!
