It might be a case of you being unable to put their views of you in the correct perspective, or you being unable to emphasize with the way they think. Why don't you elaborate on (eg., tell us about) the situation(s) where people have treated you as a criminal? :)

I am a good person who is very misunderstood, and the people that appreciate me have met me in person, or on a forum, and actually care enough to see past initial their initial reactions. I also make a habit of culling friendships that will just make things worse for me.

I believe that you have revealed in previous posts that you are not Aspie-maybe people are picking up on some other disorder you may have...

Agreed, but it can be something as simple as unintentional signals such as body language, seeming coldness, etc. All my neighbors watch me from a distance as if I'm something to look at, but as soon as I'm within close range, they turn their heads and talk. Why? I've lived here over 3 years now and only met one of my neighbors. I am not mean to anyone, I've never treated any of these people badly. But I keep to myself, and everyone seems to fear that. To hell with them, though, I don't need them and I do not need to speak to them. I have actually lived here longer than all the neighbors around me, and unless my house gets foreclosed on, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.

Very likely. Maybe someone has seen you "stimming" or behaving "nervous and jerky" around them.

You're different. Different people trigger either anxiety or contempt - maybe both.

Are you a former Yankee or a Damnyankee? Do you know the difference? A Yankee is someone from the north. A Damnyankee is someone from the north who emigrated to the south, bought or rented property, and made themselves at home.

Uh-oh ... the Quiet Loner ... gotta watch out for them ... who knows what they do all alone ... keep an eye on the young'uns ...

Good attitude! Personally, I'm tired of being friendly to my neighbors only to have them avoid me.

I used to be like that but then I develloped too much sentiment for my own good. Now feeling accepted/loved means everything to me.

May that never happen to me

This is dangerous way: You make your well-being dependent on other's behaviour. "No man is an island ..." BUT: Allowing others to interfere with you most inner feelings makes you more vulnerable than necessary. Do what you think is right and let others do theirs.
