That is a really good point, and almost certainly true in many cases. I personally am at university for the second time. The first time I went it was because I was
supposed to -- I went to a grammar school where it was pretty much expected that
everyone went to university. We never really got told about other opportunities (vocational courses, getting a job and so on).
I spent that next year at uni, well, I wouldn't call it
partying, but it certainly involved a lot of alcohol and, ahem, stuff. I dropped out at the end of the year and came home and got a job.
That was eight years ago, and I've since returned to University because I
wanted to. I'm now in my third year and am doing well.
The one thing all that has taught me is that it really is important to make sure you're doing things for the right reasons.
