i can't remember what people said earlier and i ask them the same thing over and over and they're not happy about it. a friend told me to write down my question and they're answer now. i think i actually don't know what the advice is. i have to analyze and figure out what it is when they answer. is this something to do with asperger's? i ask them again and agian and they answer again and again, but now this person is telling me to write it down and has been telling me to write it down.

on the other hand, i never write down phone numbers, emails or birthdays though. i have an extremely good memory that will remember every birthday that i've heard and every phone number that i need to remember. im really good at memorizing facts like the names of human bones.

everyone says that i don't listen to their advice and i actually think i don't listen is my life, but i don't think im asking again, knowing that they gave advice.

use a digital tape recorder. It saves a lot of time and hassles.

naturally, you are going to have to understand the advice to be able to commit an understanding of it to memory. if you think that you don't understand the advice, then this will hold priority over memorizing it. in addition to understanding advice, it would be necessary to have an understanding of what it is that you are getting advice on and whether the person that you are recieving advice from has a compatable understanding. one way that you can try to get an understanding of some advice is through examples. also, it would be important to realize whether or not the advice could actually serve to be helping you in particular.

So pee downstairs :p
I kid.

I have a problem with short term memory too. I even bought myself a 'don't forget' writing pad. I just forget to write in it.
But my long term memory can be brilliant.

Embrace your natural talent for forgetting.

Many here suffer greatly from not being able to forget.

There is good in all things.

I had some advice.... but I forgot...

Nah, just kidding. I have this problem and have absolutely NO idea what to do. Just yesterday I went from one end of the kitchen to the other and froze because I couldn't remember what I was doing over there... then I remembered. I was doing my cooking and needed my vegetarian hotdog sausages!

I have a terrible short-term memory, with an excellent long-term one at the say time. I write lots & lots of lists, but since I don't organize them very well, I loose track of them. I really like the idea of the digital recorder.

With me, the difficulty is auditory processing. Somehow I just don't fully take things in when I hear them - I have to see them written down. I think because when it's in writing, you see it all at once - but when it's being spoken, it's all fragmented. You only hear one word/sentence at a time, and then it disappears. So I try to write things down when they are important. And if anyone uses a word I don't know, I always ask them to spell it, so that I can visualise it in my head.

I can relate. I have a bad memory too I think. Many times I forget something that my wife expected me to do. I really have to concentrate on the "thing" and try to visualize it in my mind. For example, I went to the store to get some things---usually I have to make a list even it is for four things. I went one time without a list. Instead, I imagined a picture of the four items on a table. I remembered them. Now, if it got more than four things---I'm not sure.

I have a terrible short term memory which was confirmed as my biggest difficulty through my IQ test.
I'm a big fan of list making too. Good thing I also enjoy making them.
