I had to install FireFox on a new computer at work today and I was amazed at how many extensions I had to download before I could even start my normal browsing.

anyway, here's my list:

1. Adblock Plus & Flashblock
2. Greasemonkey
3. Firebug
4. Smart Bookmarks Bar
5. Shareaholic
6. Clipmarks
7. Add Bookmark Here
8. Download Statusbar
9. Platypus
10. Selenium IDE
(and Theme - iFox Graphite)

I'm always on the lookout for useful stuff though so I'd love to hear which ones you guys use regularly!

AdBlock Plus is a must-have, usually the first thing I get on a clean install.
Autopager
Colorfultabs
Speed dial
DownThemAll (great download accelerator, I've gotten up to several MB/sec on a connection that would normally be 100KB/sec)
Twitterfox
Fast Video Download (for getting stuff off YouTube)
Tab Previews (not sure if this is the exact name, but that's the function)
FoxMarks (I triple-boot, I need bookmark syncing)
Maybe one or two more that I'm forgetting about. In Vista I also have IsAdmin to make sure I don't have very high privileges while on the Internets.

At the moment, I'm using IceWeasel with nothing but Ad Block Plus. If I can only have one add-on, that's it.

In my Firefox, on this desktop:

Adblock Plus
Adblock Plus: Element Hiding Helper
BBCodeXtra
Greasemonkey
Image Zoom
KonqueFox
Live HTTP Headers
NoScript
OperaView
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications

and last, but by far not least

Web Developer

(On my Acer Aspire One, I just have Adblock Plus, Ubuntu Firefox Modifications and Web Developer. I guess I should stick NoScript on there.)

How do you live with NoScript active? I used it for a time in my Vista Firefox, and it was the most obnoxious piece of software I've ever installed. Basically just disabled the Internet in the name of "security." Pssh. I'll just use Linux and have no worries.

That may be because I don't use Firefox on this machine. I actually use SeaMonkey, with:

Adblock Plus: Element Hiding Helper
BBCodeXtra
ChatZilla
Drag&Drop Upload of Files
Extension Manager
Extension Uninstaller API
FlashGot
Leet Key
Mnenhy - MailNews-Enhancements
NewsFox
PhishTank SiteChecker
reporter.mozilla.org
Roaming
Tabs Menu
User Agent Switcher
Web Developer
Yahoo! Mail Notifier
Zombie Keys

British Dictionary

IE Tab [so you can see how pages look in IE or just browse as if using IE but with firefox]

DownloadHelper [but I don't need to use it that often]

Theme = RulerDark 1.3.1 [I like dark themes but it is hard to find a good one - I like this one right now]

Actually, I could probably live without a few of these extensions - though not without my google tool bar, dictionaries and share-a-holic. Everything else I could ditch if I needed to.

I'm testing (playing with) the beta of Chrome 2.0. It's fast. much faster than Chrome 1.

If I could just have the aforementioned add-ons for Chrome, I'd be happy to switch. I need my dictionary too, but Chrome has that built in.

No one uses session manager? How do you deal with when you have to restart firefox (due to crash, install update or extension, etc?)

I'd add Firegestures.
