Can someone please just DDoS the Chinese government for revenge?! Nobody in the Western hemisphere will do my other suggestion (stop buying their crappy products and supporting their economy), so let's go 4chan-style!

My dad was in the foreign office.

If they have something sensitive they don't use a computer accessible to a public network. In his day he had it typed up on to a cartridge, with which were encoded using set keys that then sent at allocated time slots. Probably the person which needed to be vetted the most other than the top three was his PA.

They also has diplomatic mail, which is when a member of the permanent staff was going bank to the UK they would take a bag with them and they were not allowed to let go of it.

That was back in the 90s.

He was in Hungary during the 60s at the height of the cold war. They actually had quite low tech counter espionage techniques, and the soviet/Hungarians authorities were keen to get anything. 'Quiet rooms' were not widespread then.

One of the tricks they used was to play a recording of a cocktail party, when they were talking.

Also the bug detecting kit was quite cumbersome back then and it was shared across Europe, so it was usually obvious when they were coming. Still they did find some bugs.

Why did I say encoded? I meant encrypted. It obviously has an encoding too.

I had a proxy server but I got rid of it and now I think I just had my dose of it. I guess I deserved it.

These nationalist hackers have attacked our military websites. It's going to be a big problem in the future if it continues to grow.

Hopefully there are enough ethical hackers out there to block their efforts.

Well, bug detectors can be defeated, too...;)

In the most egregious example of this; we let the Russians build the American Embassy in Moscow; it's built on the lowest part of the city, no real way to get good radio exception.

The real kick was the cement; they put a slurry of (I think, electricians help me out) diodes into the components into the structure, which shows 'bugs' in every square inch of the embassy. There are millions of them. There were plenty of real bugs put in as well, but they have to be replaced constantly by our supposedly 'loyal' Russian help there...;)

If you want see a super clever bug then look at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Seal_bug

I was impressed by that device it was a novel and smart way to create a bug. The smart thing is that this bug needs no power wires to it or batteries.
