Okay, before you say anything, I'm NOT A TROLL.

I'm just thinking. Remember the kid with Aspergers and OCD who wrote the "Should girls be treated like sex objects" kind of posts. I found somewhere that most people with Aspergers are more likely to make really ridiculous posts, and not understand that the other members of that forum will be extremely annoyed by them. They are more likely to get flamed or eventually banned. It's like aspies need to learn the social etiquette of message boards.

I think it can be linked, as people with Aspergers like to ask unusual questions in order to see how people respond and to understand how group dynamics work. However, it is certainly not limited to Aspies - I know plenty of NTs who like writing inflammatory posts in order to 'create drama'.

Maybe inflammatory posts are not linked to Asperger's ... but certainly posts like, "An NT said 'Hello' to me on the bus. Now what do I do?" certainly are.

I mean, can you imagine that the poster just sat there on the bus without responding, got off at his or her stop, logged on to WP, posted the question, and waited for the answer, just so that he or she could get back on the bus and give the correct response?

I don't think so. Although on one forum I unintentionally did bad things without realising how they were bad and got hated and banned from that forum. But I learned what I did and I will never make that mistake again.

Making ridiculous postings linked to being ridiculous.

After reading many of the remarks posted here by teen and twenty-something Aspies, I can indeed imagine that exact sort of scenario played out in real life. I'm not entirely certain I didn't do things equally as absurd and insecure when I was a yout'. Of course there was no publicly available Internet then, so I just rehearsed the potential conversation over and over in my room and then avoided ever actually having it.

To respond to the original post: "I found somewhere that most people with Aspergers are more likely to..." Whoa whoa whoa! You 'found' somewhere? What does that mean? Are you saying you read a research study supporting the notion that people with Asperger Syndrome are statistically more likely to post ridiculous statements on Internet sites? What institute of higher learning funded this study? What were their methods of compiling factual evidence? Who determined what posts were ridiculous and which merely whimsical?

Exactly my point.

It was an observation. I know a kid with asperger's made completely stupid posts(Not exactly inflammitory.) and without knowing any better.

I don't think they're linked. MAYBE, WrongPlanet being a good place to start posting on Message Boards, but not Autism in general.
When I first started posting on message boards, when I was 11, I got flamed a lot. However, most NTs I know go through the same thing. Rules on message boards are a lot simpler.
1. Use Grammar
2. Don't pick a fight with people who are clear veterans
3. Don't spam
4. Don't go off topic
5. Don't talk about stupid topics
etc. Now I rarely get flamed on forums. Forums and general socializing are very different, in my opinion. It only took me around a year to be respected, as opposed to be the biggest newb on the forum(and I'm actually a moderator there now), I'm still rejected among society in general after 14 years of trying to get a long xD.

Well the last poster suggested some good advice, I am not sure how best to avoid a flame war but the best advice I can give is that if something irks you then just ignore it and go somewhere else unless it breaks one of the official rules.

If it breaks an official rule or is sailing close to the wind then go tell one of the mods, I know that the mods are overworked but they would rather you tell them about some bad stuff instead of getting into a flame war.

I think that almost all parts of the web have their silly things.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

I know I have made stupid posts on purpose. One of them was "Do toys come to life?" and "Do you have a payphone in your home?"

Then I have been told I have made naive posts and I don't understand how they were naive. I have gotten crap in the adult board despite others making the same kind of posts and then I got told finally it's the way I word them. Okay so that explains the discrimination then I have been getting. I don't know any other way to word them.

Everyone is welcome on WP. That is the whole mission statement here, but what isn't welcome is one "type" of person coming here and trying to ostracize everyone who doesn't think the way they do. If you do not like it you can leave, but don't try to force others to conform or make them feel self-conscious because their way of relating on this website is "ridiculous" to you.

People with AS are more likely to express everything on their mind without using filters. We all have strange ideas and thoughts but NTs have a "filter" that tells them not to post and/or say it. The other thing is AS people tend to be less judgmental. Yes you can have an occasional argument, but you have less NTish responses like, "STFU idot", "Go kill yourself", "Yeah and your momma", "WTF is this post even about idiot?"...ect...ect....ect Sometimes NT "etiquette doesn't make sense. Go post about a topic thats been posted before and they'll say, "Search feature much" or "Why can't the noobs use the search function?". If you go dig up an old thread the NTs will say stuff like, "WTF noob this thread is ancient" or "Why are you bumping this old thread? F-ing noob!". I much prefer this message board over many others. People are honest and speak their minds without as much judgment.

I almost exclusively use forums for trollin'.

Its where you can get your revenge on the ass*oles of the world. Most forums have plenty of those. Though I don't see many round here. Trolling brings me great joy - it is a very subtle art you know.

I don't think so.

Something I do notice though. Whenever someone posts something ridiculous people respond to the topic with their own opinion on how ridiculous the post was. People are often blunt but there isn't ever really a bully/mob mentality going on.

On other forums when someone posts something a bit "off the mark" it becomes a contest to see who can ridicule this person in the worst way possible. This "gang bang" behavior is even worse in my mind as it just looks like a bunch of people getting off on bullying. I sometimes worry if this forum would devolve into something like that if it weren't for moderators.
