Mr Twiddle from Well, really, Mr Twiddle! By Enid Blyton.
- it's a series of comedic stories for children about a middle aged married man who gets confused all the time and makes silly mistakes - like forgets to wear his hat in the rain, or takes something literally and comes back with the wrong groceries - that sort of thing, and his exasperated wife doesn't know what to do with him.
"The story of Mr Twiddle, who is always doing something silly such as putting fireworks on the fire by mistake, trying to read the herrings and feeding the newspaper to the cat. He just can't remember anything." (Amazon)
I used to love those books because he used to remind me of all the mistakes I used to make at home, how I used to get confused with things/forget instructions, that sort of thing.
