OK, when I was younger, I was scared of evil spirits in my room that come out at night. I had my CD playing until I went to sleep, because they could only mess with my mind when the room was silent. If I was still awake when the last song was finishing, I'd rush over to the stereo to put it back to the beginning. If I ever forgot, I'd be freaked out.
I grew out of this, and began to like nighttime better than daytime.
But two nights ago, I'd stayed up til 3am using the computer, right, then I went to bed as normal. But the spirits had returned. The spooky silence was filling up my mind. Last night, I watched TV until the latest time possible, then switched it off, and I tried to get to sleep as quickly as possible so I could forget about the spirits.
I know they're a figment of my imagination, and all. But WHY? WHY ARE THEY BACK? Am I going crazy or what?

My experience with spirits was that they came back to me right before a highly significant time/event in my life. The scary part of that is to know that it may get worse. The upside is to know that the events you are experiencing and will be experiencing are of no small significance and you may have been chosen for an important task.
I do not know what your beliefs about God are, and I am not trying to proseletyze by telling you this, but I will say it because I KNOW it happened for me: the spirits HATED the name of Jesus. A very scary event was when I was physically attacked one time, again and again, every time I said Jesus Christ. But it forced the thing to leave, and after that, they would leave when I told them to because they did not want to hear that word. All I'm saying, is that, regardless of your religious beliefs, at least try it. And pray.
When I was a little girl, I used to go to a church without any denomination. Either way, the one thing I really disagree about religious institutions doing, they tell little kids who are too young to fully grasp the concept of God that there is a Satan, and he is an ugly narly monster, but he's invisible, and he wants your soul and he has all these demons who are scary and ugly too and unlike the boogeyman, they are real. I used to dream a lot about Satan stealing my family members which made it worse. I used to believe that if you loved a stuffed animal enough, it would make the stuffed animal real just like the monsters and they would fight off all the invisible monsters the church talked about. Then I would surround my bed with stuffed animals including an angel animal and a tiger. I used to also sing, and badly sing, all the praise songs at the church. I'm sure if there were actual evil demons in my room as a child, they left not because the songs were about God and Jesus, but because my singing is so awful it would knock instruments out of tune.
But now I'm a grown up and have learned some things about it all. Since you seem to think these are figments of your imagination, I've learned that the symbol of Satan and demons in your dreams means ignorance. It's possible there is something going on in your life that you need to learn a little more about to find your peace.
I don't know if you are scared of these creatures or not, but if it were real and not just in your head...again, another religious moment, and I'm not sure how religion works where you are, but the archangel Michael is the head of the angels (under God and Jesus of course). I guess he leads God's military like if God was the Commander in Chief, Michael would be a General except he fights instead of hanging out in the safe room playing with buttons. Either way, he's been known to bitchslap a few demons in his time, and a simple prayer to him to come down and have your back should squash what's going on whether it be real or imaginary. The Catholic Church has some prayers already made up you can memorize (many online), but I was told you don't have to say those exact prayers. You could probably just ask God to send Michael down your way. If you don't believe in God, it still wouldn't hurt to try, and just talk to God like you would anyone else you would ask help from. Whether it be, Sorry I haven't talked to you in a while but I could really use your help here..., or I'm sorry I don't totally believe in you but I really want you to exist because right now I could sure use your help here.... Of course, if applicable on that one. Either way, I would seriously attempt prayer since there is already a religious undertone to your description of what you are experiencing.
Also, have you verbally told the spirits to leave? If you verbally stick to your guns no different than having uninvited guests in your home, maybe they will leave (not only your room, but also your mind). Imagine it like dealing with telemarketers, bill collectors, used car salesmen, and Jehova Witnesses...be strong, stubborn, and don't show any slack to how you feel or you might end up signing up for a magazine subscription you are not interested in.
Always remember who is boss, you. Never let them control you or the way you live. Not even by allowing yourself to get frustrated by it. Your body is your body and only you choose what happens to it. Your house is your house and only you decide who is allowed to hang out and who isn't. These things are your territory, and like any other animal, you should instinctively have a desire to mark your territory, claim it, defend it. They say us Aspies are a lot like cats, so imagine it like a cat who claimed the front yard and another cat is trying to move in to that territory. Yeah it may be a cat fight in the end, but better to squash the outsiders than to allow them to take over your territory. Of course this is metaphorically. Do not actually pee in the corners of your room, please.
Either way, if you follow any of my advice, at least ask Michael to come down and have your back. You are dealing with invisible unkowns, and maybe your best defense is with another invisible unknown.
Don't worry, just try to put it out of your mind. It could be a symptom of stress. The human mind is quite capable of conjuring up physical presences as manifestations of a problem that is bothering us.
The Muslims believe that the world is full of spirits but that they have no power to do anything to us because God has them under control. As one Muslim friend said to me, if they could harm us, don't you think they'd have done it by now?
No disrespect intended to religious denominations that teach demon possession and all that stuff, but I don't think it's true.

Thanks for the help so far, everyone.
The spirits aren't physical manifestations, like a hallucination, it's just the feeling that there is something there watching me.
I'm not so sure I believe in God. I guess I would be agnostic - some days I'm cynical and atheistic, but sometimes I do kind of believe in a higher power.
I will try telling the spirits to get out, but I'm sure I'm just imagining them so it might not work.

This is a good point, and it applies to every religious tradition, too. If they aren't figments of your imagination, then the only thing they've ever managed to do to you is scare you, and even then they can be defeated by music. If it only has an effect when there's dead silence, you could set up a fan in your room for some white noise. Just turn it on, and it blows them away...
They are probably just imaginary, and if so, humor can probably help a lot. You could try watching a funny movie before bed.

Get some holy water. I've had experiences with something evil, and so has my mom, and so has my sister. Heavy breathing sounds in your ear, being paralyzed, seeing a dark black spirit over you, feeling breath on your face, being suffocated, strong arms wrapping around you and trying to crush you to death. We do not have hallucinations.
The name of Jesus works, even if you are only able to say it in your mind. They are also very scared of St. Michael, and the Virgin Mary. My sister had an awful attack, and she now keeps a St. Benedict medal that has been specially blessed, and holy water by her bed. We all have crucifixes in our bedrooms.
I know there are a lot of people here who think these things are superstitious, but when you are being targeted, you could care less how superstitious it is, as long as it works! Don't let anyone tell you it is only "sleep paralysis" either, because you need to protect yourself. Once you've had one of these experiences, you take this stuff seriously.

well, if you thought that those watching you were there for your well being, rather than ready to grab your leg from under the bed, it would be a lot easier to deal.
I am a full on adult, I keep a radio playing low in the room when I go to sleep, with a little electric candle (that flutters like a real candle! very comforting) the candle goes out after 4 hours, so if I wake and the candle is going, I know it is too early to think about getting up and if the candle is dark (but the radio is still low in the back ground) I know I my alarm clock will be my next marker to finish up the night.
I had the same problems and night horrors when I was a child, and now I know the only 'evil spirits' is my own mind that can't stop processing stuff that keeps me awake and thinking.
If I believed in exorcism, I might benefit from the placebo effect (meaning, if you THINK it happens, it DOES happen for you) , but I don't, so I will just deal with it in a way that works for me.
This is what people mean when they talk about 'what ever gets you through the night'. Married and coupled folks turn to each other for comfort through the long hours. People like you and me develop strategies to help us out.

I have had a lot of such experiences. Someone knocking on the door and being paralyzed to get up and answer it, feeling like struggling against not being able to breathe and yet not able to wake up.
I have found if I can quiet my mind, even in my sleep or dreaming, then I can allow my self to get out of that in between consciousness and waking. I realized long ago if I am conscious in my dreams and conscious in my waking life, then I am probably conscious in that between place between those consciousnesses.
I am glad I don't have it all scrambled up with religious or spiritual beliefs.

I don't personally believe in supernatural\spiritual occurrences. That said, I've had feelings like those other people have described. I, however, see them as psychological states. Not that it doesn't make the feelings any less real. I don't think I can really say much that might actually help, as I guess it's a subjective experience. But when I had those feelings, I always found myself in a state of extreme fight or flight.
This is slightly different, but I was deeply troubled by the fact that people might be watching me through the windows at night, and I would become utterly paranoid at any shadows or movement in the trees, or even noises. I found that it was actually easier for me to get up in the night and confront the possibility that someone might have been in the house, strangely enough.
It was as if my mind felt easier with the knowledge that if I confronted any possible intruder, I'd either drive them off, or they would kill me. That reassured me more than the thoughts of all the scary and uncertain possibilities that could occure if I didn't confront them. In the end, I always found there never was an intruder, or someone outside the house.
It was just extreme anxiety and paranoia. Like I said, it's a bit wierd and not strictly related to what you might be experiencing, but maybe it's something to think about, anyway.

hartzofspace told me a native American protection spell to keep evil spirits out of my room, which I have done. I'm not sure if the spirits are real or just my paranoid feelings, but I have done the spell, so if they're real, problem solved. If they're not, the placebo effect will put my mind at rest, so problem also solved.
Tomorrow I'll tell y'all if I had a good night's sleep.

I'd say you have to decide:
1) You consider it a medical condition. you do realize sensory sensations are part of disorders. In fact, a drug could be given to you now to make you hear voices and see things. So there are clearly possible PHYSICAL causes.
2) You want to treat this as non-physical experience. One of spiritual, emotional, real entity, etc.
I think once you decide which you want to consider it, then focus on appropriate techniques.
