I'm interested in who amongst us is a ham radio operator.

I'm AF3S, licensed but not currently active. I'd like to get back on 2 meters at least. My main interest is CW (morse code, for the rest of you), used to be a regular on CW traffic nets and had conversations at up to 55 wpm. I started the volunteer-administered exams in Broward County FL (Ft Lauderdale area) and taught classes up to advanced level.

I had a novice license, back when there was novice, technician, general, and advanced. I could send code like a master, but could only process it incoming at about 15wmp on a good day - not enough to get a general license back then so I could have "talked" instead of coded..... I hear it's different now, they've eliminated the code requirement.

I began "tuning in" about 1935 but didn't get a license until 1952 as W1WWE.

I never hear anybody on any band here (S. New Zealand).

KB0TIX - General Class
Haven't been active for a while. I need to get my hands on a good mobile HF rig. But, I think I'm saving up for an SDR type radio to tinker with first. I have a 10m rig, but I haven't used it since the last solar maximum. Perhaps I should fire it up and wait for some sporadic-E.

And, dear God, 55 WPM is fast! I was sweating when I had to pass 30 WPM years ago. I'm sure the majority of us hams have some type of ASD. I never thought about it until I just happened upon your post. So I figured I'd register and say "hello" and 73.

The more I think about it the faster 55 wpm seems, it is super fast.

I have a license which I use once in a while, I wish the sun spot count would increase to give me some decent F layer propogation conditions on 20m.

Remember, I'm not writing everything down, I'm just having a conversation. CW became a lot of fun the day I realized that I didn't need to write anymore and could just sit back and listen :)

There are people who operate at 90+ wpm.

I am an Extra class ham. Between 1988-1990, I went from Novice to Advanced, and then got Extra in 2003. My codes speed was never about 17wpm or so. I did work alot of CW as a Novice, but never became a high speed operator. I can still do it, but I'm just not very fast.

These days, I spend most of my time working the digital modes, primarily PSK31, but I also sometimes try Olivia and other soundcard modes just to see who is out there. I also check into 2meter nets in my area. Kind of cool I can talk on 2 and work digital on HF using the laptop as well.

I still enjoy swapping QSL cards as well. Haven't tried LOTW or eQSL. The hobby is changing alot, but it's still fun.

55 wpm is way out of my league. Nice going.

I've operated on HF, VHF, UFH. I don't have any equipment at the moment, but I may go with a Yaesu setup again sometime soon.

I agree with jdn74. I think either most hams may have some form of AS, or perhaps we Aspies are more drawn to pursuits like ham radio.

I got my Technician License in May of 2002 mainly for Skywarn. I haven't been too active on 2 meter for a while and now I'm having issues with my HT not wanted to power up. I don't know if it's a battery issue or something else. BTW my call sign is KC0NKI.

I just had a garage sale over the weekend and found my old Morse code learning tapes. Wow. It was from Radio Shack and covered 5WPM to 13WPM. Thats what I used to pass my test. I even passed 20WPM by the skin of my teeth. Little did I know they'd all but eliminate the code a few years later.

So is anyone here into VLF/ELF reception?

I am a ham radio operator. I never learned Morse Code because I did not have the knack for it. I have not been active in ham radio for quite a while but my license it still active.

I am KB7RYE.

And yet ANOTHER Aspie ham here!! !! I'm active, however, my anti-social self (part of my Aspie brain) doesn't put me on the air much beyond hams I already know... but you never know... :)

Oh.... W7XF

I'm a Ham, too. Because I am not allowed outside antennas in my current apartment, I only operate on 70 cm and 2 m bands.
