Maybe I am being too ambitious, but I came up with a great idea for a book, after reading this line in an ispiring book by Chris Goodchild, he wrote, "And this book is also [dedicated to} those whose stories and cries for freedom will never be heard nor come to light in their lifetime."
This made me think of all the people on this forum who are not yet successful in their lives but who desire deeply for their voices to be heard. Typically, those who face great obstacles in life and go on to become successful get to tell their story. What if we are smart and insightful, but not yet successful? Many of us on WrongPlanet have deep insights into the psychological and philosophical nature of autism, but are unable to overcome our obstacles and be successful at this point in our lives. Everyone has something they can contribute, you could die tommarrow, you have to do what you can do NOW to contribute to your world.
So my idea for a book is a collection of stories by people with ASDs who have insight into their own condition. A book produced by people with ASDs for ASDs, psychologists, parents of kids with ASDs, those who work with ASDs and anyone interested in autism. We could decide on guidelines for the stories such as a length requirement.
After everyone has turned in a story (or a deadline requirement), we could pick out the best ones, and publish them in a book.
So what does everyone think of this idea?

I am the author of a future book on Asperger Syndrome. The writing process begun about three months ago and it is actually becoming quite revolutionary as it is in its current state.
I am in the unusual situation of being a person who is on the very high end of the spectrum, bordering between autism and neurotypicality. Those who are supposedly educated on the subject of Asperger Syndrome have told me that they are yet to meet a higher functioning individual. So I recognize my task as a messenger inbetween the neurotypicals and the autists, and that is just what the book will encompass: a "translation" of the different languages of communication and perception that happen. Its main aim is to remove the social stigma that surrounds the diagnosis, and to show the reader just how limiting the whole concept of diagnosis is. All this is covered in depth in my book.
I believe there are tons of little collections of essays, poems and God knows what else out there and not yet a book that grabs the problem by its root and shakes the very foundations that it is built upon. I would be grateful if there are high-functioning individuals here who would like to share some of their wisdom with me. It will be published in my book, and you will be credited or remain anonymous; according to your wish. Since it is not my intention to hijack this thread, anyone who wishes to contribute may PM me. For the time being I am only looking for contributions by people who are diagnosed officially.
