Is this normal? I can see this being normal. Music effectively serves as a sort of social glue - not a way for people to meet other people, but a way for existing friendships to become more and more stable. However, none of my friends...
...at least those with whom I've been in a car (that's all three of you!)...
...none of them share my music taste. It happens that two of my friends back in North Carolina are mutual friends themselves and share the love of Queen, the Killers Panic At the Disco, etc..., and they'll sing along while I'm baffled that they can remember all those lyrics. Certainly for them it's a social glue.

Also, what is the normal behavior of two friends in the car alone? I tend to be quiet and very focused on the music. Always looking the front.
It alternates between intense discourse and quiet periods. I've found that you can have very good conversations while in the car. But then I'm not the driver. In terms of music, I wouldn't know exactly since I don't have my friends' music taste. I've actually tried to learn the Panic! at the Disco lyrics so I could sing along with my friends but that's more memorization than I've done in the past six years of school.
But in the end, social behavior in a car with two people is indeed a bit more subdued than with three people. Just because you don't have a third person you could use as a foil, stooge, etc... in an argument, so things are a bit less heated.
