I'm new to this, I was talking with my aunt tonight and she explained to me all of the characteristics I had as a child and informed me that she seriously thought I have this disorder. She has been talking to others about it and learning about it over the years, she just didn't know when the right time would be to tell me. She said she has brought it up several times to my mother, but my mother refused to help me over the years.

This all is very new to me, and I have been reading about it online all night. I don't really know how I feel about any of it yet. I am quite overwhelemed to be honest. I have gone nineteen years not understanding who I was or why I do some of the things I do. Finally, this gives me a place to find some answers. I feel all over the place though.

I came across this website while looking up information online. I thought it would be a good idea to join, in hopes that I can get to know myself a little better and understand this disorder.

I just got my diagnosis this last week, and I know how you feel... it's really messing with my head. On the one hand, it's a relief... I'm a perfectly normal Aspie and now I can take better advantage of my strengths and learn better coping skills for the rest... the interface troubles. That's scary, and hopeful.

On the other hand... it's more marginalization, exclusion when what I really want is to belong, to not be the freak of the week to others, the oddity, the curiosity.

It's great that your aunt came forward... sounds like she's on your side. That's a great blessing. :D

It's a difference, not a disability...

Welcome to WP, abee... most of us are in the same boat... I wasn't diagnosed until my late fifties, so I had A LOT of time to wonder what was wrong with me!

Wow, abee. Yeah, the first few weeks will be spent wrapping your mind around the concept. I'm glad you are so proactive and researching.

Welcome,

This is great, I am all of those things, wait! not that, some of these things. That's all wrong, one of the above, but wait, yes, some things, and that, and I never thought of that, and then settle in to being a Member of Wrong Planet.

We can be a lot of fun.

Glad to see you join. A lot of answers can be found here, and most of the people are pretty good.
So welcome :)
