Hi. I am a 21 year old NT with a 28 year old non-verbal autistic brother. I came across this site about a month ago and just cannot stop reading! So I guess its time to finally introduce myself and get more involved. I really appreciate this site and it gives me alot of insight and makes me aware of views that I have been blind to.

Tracy, an NT mother of 2 and 1 step. Went through many very difficult years with my now 18yo son, across a spectrum of various diagnoses, behavior and educational traumas, through many schools, etc. Among the possibilities were AS -- many many similarities but he never developed an intense interest, and was fairly charismatic, socially ... or able to be when he wanted to (good with adults and younger kids, but not peers).
Went through the ringer with meds, etc. It was pretty horrible for both him and me (though I don't think he'd believe that). The man I love has clear AS signs too, and I've gotten alot of help here about how to understand and interact with him.

I think this is a wonderful community.

I've been here for a good month but I haven't really introduced myself. I live in Canada, and I have been diagnosed with AS since late 2002, when I was 16 years old. So far I've mainly posted to the Romantic board since that has been an area of concern for me for some time. As far as the autism spectrum goes, I am on the outskirts, as my case of Asperger's is minor compared to others with the disorder. I met a group of Aspies recently and I was much higher functioning than all of them - for example, I drive, and all of them were very surprised. You could tell just by looking at them that they had something, but that is not the case with me - people don't notice anything until AFTER I start talking to them. The group facilitator noted that I have very good social skills, and I would imagine she meant in comparison to the rest of the group.
