Music Creation Software?
Ah, I remember the days. I would stick music 2000 in my playstation one and just jam out to my own tunes and riffs. Only the instruments sucked and were limited, as well as the fact that you could barely save any songs. Has anyone got any similar programs but for the PC, preferably with instrument sounds where you can create your own riffs? I'm hoping to create both rap and rock beats. If you know any program, free or not, please post the software's name, I would be interested greatly.
Get a good sequencer like Cubase SX3 or Sonar 4/5. Would cost quite a lot though but you can buy cutdown versions. Cubase LE is good and should be fairly cheap.
And then there are tons of free plugins you can use which will sample sound, drum machine, synths etc.
I use Reason which is a self contained studio and is really cool to learn with and i love the synths and devices you get with it. But it doesnt allow you to record, so i feed it into Sonar to record and master it. But to buy both would cost you an arm and a leg
What I use is buzz, which you can get for free (legal) from http://buzzmachines.com/
A bit of info about buzz:
It is a modular synthesis sequencer. It can take midi input. It can interface with vsts, and also its native machine format (which people still release machines for). It can produce profesional sounding audio if you invest the time to learn the interface and mechanics involved.
Best of all it is free.
more information about Buzz can be found at this link: http://buzzwiki.wipe-records.org/index.php/Main_Page
There is also a fairly active irc channel devoted to buzz on irc.efnet.org in #buzz. As with most rooms, don't ask questions before googling and checking the wikis or tutorials on buzzmachines.
