I absolutely hate violence. I also find wrestling to be stupid, as it can encourage violence.

I hate violence and don't feel comfortable being violent even if I'm supposed to be protecting myself.

Only if it's undeserved.

The physical act of violence can be cathartic and theraputic if applied properly. Some (of the Non-Ghandi set) would also insist that violence is sometimes necessary to defend or maintain one's way of life.

However, you raise a greater philosophical point -- is it correct to hate something even if it is evil or bad? Hate leads to Suffering. The great Yoda (among others :)) tells us this. By hating something, even if it is bad, do we not do something bad ourselves? Is it not better to shun, pity, or wish to re-educate the violent?

Use caution with hate, lest you become what you despise.

I believe that violence can be necessary to defend yourself or to defend your home or certain causes.

My post had nothing to do with the moral aspect of it. I hate violence not because I think it's wrong because I do think there is a time and place to use it as in the case of defense, but because I personally feel very uncomfortable seeing or being in the midst of it. It's unnecessary and pointless in my opinion and I feel much more comfortable solving a problem in a peaceful manner then getting all hyped up and angry ready to fight the next person who disagrees with me. Be violent for all I care, just keep it away from me... I can't handle it.

I'm not a fan of violence. War is a result of the diplomats making grievous mistakes (or it should be anyway), and I can't even begin to understand the whole "let's go out on the school's football ground and beat each other to pulps" mentality.

Ironically, I play violent video games. :?

Also, when someone pushes my buttons to a certain point, when I get angry enough and stressed enough, I want to physically hurt the source of the anger. It's rather strange, as I'm a peaceful person.

Does anyone else have this paradox?

I really dislike gratuitous violence... violence for fun and entertainment. As for violence resulting from loss of control when anger rears its ugly little head... I've certainly smashed a few things in my day and ultimately felt stupid and foolish and rotten. In the end it solved nothing and created many complications. So I reject it.

Wars and genocide aren't just a case of failed diplomacy... there have been far too many megalomaniacs--Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, and Kim Jung Il to name but a few--for that theory to hold water. Some leaders and regimes are more inclined to game the diplomacy while continuing to develop their ultimate strategy (whether expansion or genocide), as we can observe with the current N. Korea and Iranian manuevers.

Don't get me wrong... I'm a huge fan of diplomacy, negotiation, and international sanctions. Between rational reasonable states it's an enormously useful process. But sanctions have their limits, can cause enormous suffering, and have just as many unintended consequences as wars on civilian populations.

I'm completely desensitized to movie/TV violence (and often like it...Michael Myers of "Halloween" is one of my favorite movie characters), but in the case of 'real life' violence, I am NOT a fan. It terrifies me.

I love martial arts?

I think many people consider that 'violence' though it isn't really!

I like the raw simplicity of violence. It may not solve much in the long run, but it's power & universal understanding are something to be respected.
